Lifeworks at 70: Reflecting on Our Journey and Looking Ahead
As we continue to celebrate Lifeworks’ 70th Anniversary year, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve all been a part of – seven decades of empowering individuals with disabilities, supporting families, and building inclusive communities.
The highlight of our year was undoubtedly the Inspiring Possibilities Jubilee. We were honored to celebrate this milestone with so many of you—our individuals, families, supporters, friends, donors, and sponsors—who came together to mark our history and to envision our future. The stories shared, the performances by individuals in our theatre arts program, and the unveiling of our 70th Anniversary video which served to remind all of us of what we’ve achieved together.
As we look back, we also look forward, knowing that our mission is as vital today as it was 70 years ago. Lifeworks continues to lead the way in providing innovative, person-centered programs that adapt to the changing needs of our community. Our new initiatives, such as the growth of our Autism Support and Family Support programs, the continued increase in services and supports of our Harbor Counseling program and the exciting launch of our newest residence for five people in Norwood ensure that we can provide even more comprehensive care and opportunities for those we serve.
This fall, we celebrate the achievements of the individuals who inspire us every day. Whether it’s through our Arts in the Community program, which fosters creativity and self-expression, or through our employment services that connect people with meaningful work. Their stories continue to drive our commitment to inclusivity and empowerment. In November, nearly 400 people will come together to celebrate our Employment. Services and Life Enhancement services programs with our Annual Awards Banquet. This event focuses on the successes and achievements of all our participants in the program and is truly one of the highlights of our year.
Advocacy remains the hallmark of our agency. It was the advocacy of our residential team and the families of the people who moved into our newest home that led to the beauty of those moving into the home in September. It was the advocacy of Lifeworks and our staff, in conjunction with our colleagues and partners at The Arc and ADDP, which led to a major increase in funding this year for our annual operations. This increase has allowed us to cap off our month of staff appreciation events with the awarding of one of the largest pay increases in the history of our agency, an increase that benefited all members of our staff. These types of advocacy efforts enhance the lives of all we serve and their families.
None of this would be possible without the generosity of our community. Your unwavering support has allowed us to grow and thrive, and I thank each and every one of you for standing with us. From our annual donors who fuel our Employee Engagement activities to the many sponsors who are making our 70th year celebrations a reality, your contributions make a lasting impact.
As we move forward, we are excited to continue creating new opportunities, expanding our programs, and deepening our connections with all of you. Together, we are building a future where everyone has the opportunity to lead a fulfilling and meaningful life.
Thank you for being a part of Lifeworks’ incredible journey, and for your continued belief in our mission. Here’s to the next chapter—one filled with possibility, innovation, and endless opportunities to inspire.
Sincerely,
Dan Burke
